Vintage Updates: Winners to Watch For
Every once in a while, weather conditions in a
particular grape-growing region of the world are exceptional, resulting in
a fantastic vintage. This
happened during 2001 for Germany Riesling grapes, and the wines from these
exceptional vintages will soon be arriving in our store.
Germany normally experiences marginal growing
conditions; having excellent weather throughout the growing season is
truly unique. During 2001,
the weather conditions came together nicely for an abundant, high-quality
grape crop.
As a result, the 2001 German Riesling wines represent
the best vintage to come out of Germany in 30 years. In years such as this, there’s actually less work for the
wine makers, because they aren’t correcting errors.
Another benefit is that smaller, less-known wineries can produce
outstanding wines in that given year, which translates into great values
at reasonable prices.
Overall, the prices for the 2001 German Rieslings have
not escalated to reflect the tremendous quality and value of these wines.
For example, you’ll find outstanding wines in the $25-30 per
bottle range, instead of $100 per bottle.
As
these wines arrive over the next 6-8 weeks, we expect them to be bought up
and to appreciate rapidly.
We also plan to feature German wines for our August 21st
“Cellar Master Series” Thursday evening tasting and educational event.

Our Cellar Master series is a
great way to learn about and sample some of the higher priced wines in our
store. On the third Thursday of each month, we offer more than just
a wine tasting - you'll participate in an educational
seminar, taste a full flight of nine wines and
enjoy hors d'oeuvres
paired to the wines.

will feature "Wines from Two Continents," presented by
one of our suppliers, Billington Imports. Space is limited,
